Voters Turn Out for 2026 Midterm Election in St. Charles County

St. Francois County - Missouri

Voters braved a rainy election day to make their voices heard on issues ranging from local political offices to statewide ballot measures.

“For a midterm election, turnout was high,” says Election Director Kurt Bahr. “We saw more people cast ballots than during the 2022 midterm.”

On election day, more than 122,000 St. Charles County residents voted, about 40% of the county’s 301,000 registered voters. Earlier, another 46,000-plus voted during the absentee period, about 15.5% of registered voters. Altogether, about 56% of registered county voters participated in the midterm.

County Executive Steve Ehlmann won reelection to a sixth term with about 56% of the vote, while Elections Director Kurt Bahr took about 68% of the vote against his challenger.

For the first time in more than a decade, Democrats will join St. Charles County’s delegation to the Missouri House of Representatives. Districts 104 (east St. Peters), 105 (south St. Charles), and 106 (north St. Charles) all voted to elect Democratic representatives, who will be sworn in for the 2027 legislative session.

At the county government level, there was an extremely close race for County Council District 7, with incumbent Tim Baker, a Republican, winning reelection by 141 votes (50.2%), out of more than 25,000 votes cast.

St. Charles County voters rejected Amendment 3, in sync with the rest of Missouri. Out of more than 2 million voters statewide, about 55% voted NO on Amendment 3.

Local voters were also of similar mind with the rest of the state when it came to an amendment to protect Missouri’s initiative petition process from interference by the state legislature. St. Charles County was nearly 61% in favor of that amendment, just a bit more than the statewide 60% approval vote.

Election results for County Government offices and all ballot issues are listed below. For other elected offices on the ballot, you can view how local voters cast their votes on the election results page.

Official election results will be certified by Nov. 17 after the Election Authority has conducted the hand count audit, reviewed and counted provisional ballots, and convened the verification board to review all the election results.
